Weiss Thai Nipple Gong - Product Information

Hand selected by percussion specialists, Weiss Thai Nipple Gongs are of the highest quality available on the market.

Often referred to as Bao gongs, these are made in the Thai tradition, giving them a focused, resonant fundamental with a strong decay. This tonality features significantly fewer overtones than a traditional gong.

These gongs are untuned. For specific pitches please see our Weiss Tuned Thai Nipple Gongs.

Love my gong

Comments:

I love my gong!! I have wanted a gong forever and this is the first one I bought. I was a little disappointed that the detail was not as pictured, I have to admit. Maybe the pic online should look more like it really does? Other than that, I love the sound, rap on it multiple times a day...my family members think I am strange.

I think these two gongs will provide the perfect sound we need for the John Cage piece "Credo in US".

Thai gongs

Comments:

Love these gongs! I have collected more than 100 gongs. 95% of them from Steve Weiss Music. Approximately half of these are thai gongs. At this point I have created my own three and a half octave chromatic gong play thanks to you guys and your willingness to go the extra mile. To anyone trying to put together a set of these , Chaus, wind gongs or any of the other beautiful gongs and tam tams that Steve Weiss Music has to offer......I discovered in the very first gong purchase I made of 5 Chau gongs and a wind gong that if you know what you want and simply ask for it when you place your order, someone will go through the stock and do their best to find what you're looking for. Just say...".Please match as a set to be played together" or if your buying a set of lets say 7 Thai gongs ask " If possible, please find intervals to span from one to one and a third octave. If your willing to maybe lose a couple of small gongs to the hammer and chisel while you learn to tune, with enough around to mix and match, tune this up a little or another down a bit you can create any pitches your looking for. Anyway guys, I just wanted to say thank you for all of the great service and attention to detail you have provided me over the years......this is way overdue. I would also like to add, to anyone thinking about purchasing a Thai gong or set of gongs, look no further you're at the right place!

Don't assume these are graduated. sound ok

Comments:

Just because they are different sizes does NOT mean a given set will produce different pitches or pitches in order of high to low based on size. I did not care about which pitches but did need them to be graduated. I ordered them 2" apart and two still produced the same pitch. Either exaggerate the difference in size or just ask for specific pitches and save yourself the hassle. SW seems willing to work with me on an exchange. The gongs also vary somewhat in timbre (some of the pitches are clearer than others and some have more gong washiness), so if you are looking for a set that matches perfectly you might want to have them picked out specially for you.

Cool Gongs!

Comments:

These are so much fun to play! I own the 8", 10" and 12" versions of these and they are own my aux rack behind my drumset and I use them in marching band on the aux cart. They sound great, are easy to play, and are a fun alternative to large cowbells or cymbals! Looking for a different sound? Look no further! Your students will love these!
