good tone and volume for footdrums

Comments:

I bought this hoping it would give a little more volume to the 18" bass drum in my Farmer FootDrum kit. The head that came with the set sounded great, but was too soft in relation to the other components in the kit. This bass drum head worked perfectly. The bass drum now isn't overshadowed by snare, cowbell, woodblock, high hat, and other gear. Having the option of the different dampening/tuning rings is also great...much better than rings glued onto a head which cannot be removed or switched out.

Works As Advertised

Comments:

Worked as advertised right our of the box, period on my 22 x 16 BRX bass drum. Well made, no problems easy to use. Found the plasticky sound of the beater on the head disappeared with the Evans nylon patch. With no extra muffling ring, the drum responded as if it had been fitted with an EQ1 batter (think clear Powerstroke 3 with little vent holes around the perimeter of the head through both head and muffling ring). With the widest ring, it responds like a straight PS3--maybe a bit more--but by no means dead. Of course, the narrow ring, a bit less than a PS3. I liked the idea of the coated EMAD, but found it a little dead sounding, and ultimately went to EQ1 batter and reso in frosted. That said, I could easily recommend this head as a starting point if a drummer wanted to change or upgrade their sound.
